Climbing in the Dolomites
Dave Rogers and Greg Care just got back from a short climbing Holiday to the Dolomites region in North Eastern Italy. The area is famed for it's Via Ferrata routes, these are routes protected by huge steel cables attached to the rock, a cow's tail system is used to clip to these cables as a form of protection. There are also a host of amazing traditional routes on offer, Dave and Greg sent us some images from a week spent exploring what the area had to offer.
"Sunshine and steep limestone – towering rock pillars all around. This is climbing in the Dolomites area of north-eastern Italy. Designer rock climbing on routes like the Spigolo del Velo and the Spigolo del Sass d'Ortiga with 11 pitches of steep rock, great exposure and big holds. No bolts, but loads of protection with threads, nuts and the occasional fixed peg.
Great accommodation is also available at reasonable rates in the Italian Alpine Club huts. Check out ‘Classic Climbs in the Dolomites' by A Kohler to find the most fun routes."
Thanks to Greg Care for all of the below images.
