Bread and Butter Films in association with the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival proudly present the BC paddlesports festival. An afternoon and evening of Films, a guest speaker, a short Film Competition and an after show party.
The Festival matinee session shall open it's doors at 12.15pm and run through until 5.30pm. The evening showings and speakers will open the doors at 7.15pm and run until 2am

Guest Speaker (John Grace) 
Our guest speaker for this event shall be Film maker and expedition kayaker John Grace from Asheville NC. John is a pivotal figure within the world of expedition kayaking. Recent achievements include a first descent of BC's infamous Mosley Creek, being part of the first ever team to complete a one day Stikine descent and most recently a host of first descents in Russia.
John shall attend our event to talk over his recent adventures in our very own BC. John will also be premiering his latest film 921 BC chronicling his adventures within BC.

‘Red Bull Roots Tour' Ben Brown (45 mins)

Kiwi extreme kayaker, Ben Brown, is part of the infamous Red Bull team – always pushing the physical boundaries of the sport. Ben has traveled to over 30 countries, paddling and competing on the best rivers this planet has to offer. He has completed many first descents of rivers throughout Scandinavia, Western Europe, California and New Zealand.
Ben's documentary follows him and a group of friends as they tour his homeland, New Zealand, in search of adventure.  Rob Coffey hails from Dublin, Ireland, and has spent the last seven years travelling the globe in search of adventure. Rob's recent adventures include a tour of the ‘Axis of Evil' on Iran's Bakitari river, a malaria-ridden descent of Ethiopia's Blue Nile river in the rainy season and, most recently, a trip to the frozen north of Norway.

 Nomads looks into the lives of transient whitewater kayakers who have followed their love of the river on a life long adventure around the world. Filmed on location in Uganda, Nomads spotlights the stories of three women who through their love of kayaking have realized their abilities to give something back to the Ugandan people. These adventurous women discuss the challenges they face and why it's worth it.
Polly Green graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Fine Art in 1991. She was a member of the United States 2003 Freestyle Kayak Team, placing 5th at the World Championships. A nomad herself, Polly has been on the road for the past ten years and has kayaked in over 30 different countries. This is her first film.
Chris Emerick graduated from the University of West Virginia in 1992. He has been filming and producing whitewater kayaking videos for the past ten years. He has worked for National Geographic and filmed for numerous outdoor oriented television shows. Chris was on the pro freestyle kayaking circuit and is an avid kite-boarder and world traveler.

 'Dakib' is a film about kayaking the steep, cold rivers of the Lake Superior region. The film focuses on a group of Minnesota kayakers over a paddling season. The action begins with the steeps on Lake Superior's North shore. Dakib also includes; Red Bull's Blast to the Bridge, (a downriver race on the technical whitewater of the lower St. Louis River), freestyle kayaking the huge water of Manitoba's Sturgeon Falls, and follows up with some steep creeking in Montana and Idaho.
Joel Decker is a producer/videographer for FGP. Joel is an avid whitewater kayaker, rock and ice climber, and general pursuer of outdoor adventure.
Cliff Langley is a conservation technician for Fond du Lac College, contributing publisher for Spirit of the North Magazine , and producer/videographer for FGP. Cliff loves whitewater kayaking, canoe tripping, hiking and trail-running, good times and the pursuit of adventure.

Alex Nicks - ‘Tweaking the Nose of Terror' (11 mins)

A trip into the ‘Axis of Evil' on Iran's Bakitari River. Follow Alex and friends as they head to the Islamic republic of Iran to explore the Bakitari river. The team visit Iran's capital Tehran and mix with the local people in an attempt to explore the truth behind this mystifying country.
Alex Nicks has been an Avid explorer for over ten years now and spends his time living out of a bag in order to travel to his next adventure. Alex rose to fame with his groundbreaking big water films ‘wicked liquid'. Alex has had numerous broadcast credits to his name and continues to push the boundaries of exploration with kayaks.

 Documenting the First-Descent of Vancouver Islands Memekay River, The Last Drop documentary looks at the role kayaking plays in the conservation of BC rivers. Although the Kayakers in the film are met with a little "adverse" weather, they find the Memekay to be an untouched eco-system with massive old-growth trees and spectacular canyons and scenery.
Presented to raise awareness of Dam issues in British Columbia, the Last Drop looks at the current state of hydro in BC, and contrasts the role of the Provincial Government in the implementation of those hydro projects with the Kayakers and their thoughts on "stewardship of the rivers." The production is a joint venture by local kayak and film enthusiasts Braden Fandrich, Chris Mennell and Steve Rogers.

 - Chris Jones shall personally introduce the film.
In 2005 a group of kayakers journey to the remote and wild Parlung Tsangpo in Eastern Tibet to attempt the first complete descent of the river. For many of the team, this is not their first journey to Tibet. Two years before, expedition leader Chris Jones decided to give something back to the places he journeys through and began training the first Tibetan kayakers. While the expedition members challenge high altitude and difficult whitewater, for the first time ever, a small group of Tibetans are learning to kayak and discovering the joys and frustrations of river running.
Chris Jones is an Aussie transplant who calls B.C. home when he is not travelling around the globe with his kayak. He has been training young Tibetans to kayak and raft guide for three seasons and hopes that one day they will be able to run their own guiding business.
Sharyn Smith is from Vancouver B.C. She has been travelling to Tibet for the past three summers, tackling the job of documenting the Tibet project through photos, video and graphic design work.
